Young people learn to plan accordingly, navigate safely and problem solve strategically during their travels. The uniqueness of living in a more rural area with limited public transport options challenges everyone to think ‘outside the box’. Young people learn travel techniques such as indenting, using directional tiles and hazard bumps, and other sensory markers.

Consolidating cane skills, including all the senses to highlight landmarks that are relevant, recognising different options applicable to the travel and time requirements, and organising routes that are direct and safe provide active learning experiences for BLENNZ ākonga as they become confident and capable travellers.
