Professional development in structured literacy pedagogy is a key initiative designed to support the BLENNZ Strategic Plan and align with the Ministry of Education's recommendations.

This initiative aims to provide comprehensive training for all teachers in structured literacy pedagogy and support ākonga with this teaching approach in schools. At BLENNZ, the itinerant teaching teams are engaging in a variety of learning opportunities, including online Zoom meetings, face-to-face seminars, and regional days. These sessions cover the foundational concepts and principles of structured literacy instruction. Following the training, a dedicated working group will explore how these structured literacy principles can be integrated with BLENNZ's braille literacy teaching methods. This collaborative effort will ensure that our teaching practices are current, effective and inclusive.
